Dressing For the Weather
The weather in New York City this past weekend was a bit schizophrenic. Unpredictable weather makes figuring out what to wear each day stressful – leaving you scratching your head while staring blankly inside your closet. Feeling both hot and cold within the span of an hour is the new norm for people living in the city, so in order to be dressed appropriately for the unpredictable temperatures while still being able to maintain your own personal style, I suggest building your outfits around multiple layers.Friday I had a packed day of meetings, so I dressed corporate-appropriate with a GQ flare. I wore black slacks from H&M, a crisp white button-down (you can never have enough of these in your closet), the Urban Gentleman tie from my new collection, and a thin wool top coat. I carried the items needed for the day in a brown leather duffle (with a blue lined bottom) from Canvas by Lands End instead of a traditional work bag to make the look have a sporty touch.Friday night means hanging the tie up and gearing up for a new opportunity to make a bold statement with your weekend fashion. I threw on a burgundy half-zip retro polo from Ben Sherman and layered it with a leather biker jacket, perfect for a night out with friends at a trendy midtown lounge. Jackets like this from Boda Skins are a useful in-between piece that can make any polo, Henley or woven inside your closet look like an entirely new outfit.I love a good day to night look, one that works while running around the city to complete errands but then once finished, can go right to dinner with friends for the night. A fitted cardigan with a flannel shirt and chinos gives your look a complete, thought-out feel while staying in between the spectrum of being too casual or over-dressed. If you have a busy day ahead and only have time to wear one outfit, I suggest pairing these types of items together.Sunday is all about comfort, but who says you can’t look comfortable without showing off your personality? A baseball tee and relaxed denim matched with your favorite shoes is a playful way to look relaxed before a new week rolls in. Choose a shirt made of a super fine material to feel cozy on your day off and pair a statement shoe (comfortable boots, high top sneakers, etc) to give the look a little pop. Have a great week everyone!
