Sometimes living in the hustle and bustle of Manhattan leaves you craving an escape, but with a busy schedule, it doesn’t always work out. That’s why I very much love the idea of a staycation. This past weekend we packed our bags and checked into the new Four Seasons Downtown.A warm and friendly staff greeted us in the lobby and brought us up to a breathtaking suite overlooking Downtown Manhattan. The Four Seasons is known for going the extra mile to make you feel completely welcome. A beautiful spread of vegetables, home-made hummus, and freshly pressed juices from Chef Acosta were in the room waiting for our arrival. We enjoyed our healthy snack as we settled in before heading to Jersey Boys on Broadway to celebrate my husband’s birthday. The next morning we had a delicious breakfast in bed – fresh avocado toast, smoked salmon omelets, home-made kombucha, matcha tea and roasted potatoes with diced peppers. After putting the finishing touches on our Halloween costumes for the night’s festivities, we squeezed in a late-morning workout. The gym overlooks the newly constructed Oculus – the World Trade Center’s transportation hub – built as a dazzling white architectural structure. As a health fanatic, it’s hard for me to find a gym that I am impressed by when travelling, but this facility had all of the necessary equipment (and more) for an intense workout. After breaking a sweat, it was time to visit the spa - I did not want the 80-minute deep tissue massage to ever end! It was an hour and a half of complete zen, something so necessary in resetting your mind and body from everyday life.Saturday was the big night in New York to celebrate Halloween, so we invited a few friends over to celebrate my husband’s birthday before heading out (in costume) for the evening. I was King Triton from the little mermaid and Gio was Hades from Hercules – a good vs. evil theme (and sidenote, we proudly made parts of our costumes)! All of our friends who stopped by couldn’t believe how beautiful the hotel was - not to mention that it had just opened three weeks earlier and it was operating as if it had been opened for years. This was the second time I stayed at a Four Seasons (the first being on our honeymoon in Bali) and I am blown away by how consistent this hotel line is. The staff and service are always impeccable, the food is deliciously award-worthy, the room accommodations are nothing short of spectacular, and the experience is always special. I look forward to exploring other locations throughout the world and having The Four Seasons play an important role in our everlasting memories throughout the beautiful journey we called Life.
This past weekend I ventured off to Montréal for a quick getaway with friends and stayed at the trendy W Hotel. What I love about the W brand is that their hotels have a clean, young and sexy vibe and are always consistent no matter what city you stay in. Our room was spacious and modern with views facing the city. And let's talk about the bedding! I always look forward to the beds at a W because it's so comfortable (they've started selling the bedding because demand is so high)! This W location is covered in street art from popular local artists like What Is Adam and Stikki Peaches. They have several different bars and lounges staffed with mixologists who curate unique cocktails. The spa was also a perfect way to start the day off right – I received an hour deep-tissue massage (my fave) and felt rejuvenated to take on the day. Each morning we ordered a delicious kale, spirulina, almond milk and apple smoothie -- I was thrilled to see this hotel had healthy options on the menu. But even though I'm a health fanatic, I admit that we also managed to find one of the most popular poutine spots in the city because you can’t go to Montréal and not try their famous dish! You might laugh, but we did manage to find a vegan version! Between the massages and smoothies (and yes, even squeezing in a workout in the art-inspired gym), the W kept me feeling refreshed all weekend long.Montréal is a beautiful vibrant city, full of delicious and unique restaurants, cool boutique stores, and clubs with some of the best DJs I have ever heard in any city. I highly recommend staying at the W if you visit Montréal. It's in a central location downtown and will give you that unique experience to make your trip that much more special.
An important weekend deserves a memorable hotel. That’s why for our wedding tasting we stayed at the iconic Fontainebleau Hotel. I always heard impressive things about the Fontainebleau and being a huge fan of Old Hollywood, I loved the history behind it. The hotel opened in 1954 and everyone from Frank Sinatra to Elvis Presley to Presidents like John F. Kennedy have stayed there. The Fontainebleau surpassed every expectation I had. We opened the door to our room and were greeted by floor to ceiling windows with a balcony overlooking the ocean. The view was picturesque and the room and view instantly made me feel zen. The hotel has several different heated pools around the property and connects to its own private beach. Being a total beach boy, we grabbed our towels and headed to the sand where servers brought over Sancerre & Pear White Sangria…heaven! After a little R&R we retreated back to our room to get ready for a night out with some friends. Just when I thought it couldn’t get better, I hopped in the shower and saw that Molton Brown products filled the shelves adding to the spa feel of the room.I wish one night could have turned into a full week at this beautiful resort. The restaurants, service and hospitality were superb. The Fontainebleau is a very special place and I will forever remember how much it added to an unforgettable weekend.
